public awareness programme

Raising awareness on the potential offered by impact investing remains one of our core activities to ensure  that more private capital is mobilised towards solutions for society.

One of the elements of pressure for the financial sector to move more capital towards impact is the engagement of their constituency: clients of banks and insurers, employees, and beneficiaries of pension funds. Raising awareness of the public on the potential of – and need for – impact investing will help to create a force for good: clients, employees and beneficiaries will be enticed to demand action from their financial service providers.

The NAB actively promotes impact investing as a viable alternative to traditional private equity and government subsidies for financing the Dutch health sector. This was highlighted in an opinion article published in Het Financieele Dagblad, written by the NAB MD.

Furthermore, we contributed to six articles to the Impact Investor newsletter.

Additonally, we regularly engage on LinkedIn on political and impact investing developments.

To raise awareness among policymakers, the NAB addresses regulatory barriers identified in reports such as Are We Punching Below Our Weight? and the 10% Diagnostic Report, and informs the public sector on how private capital mobilisation can support societal goals.

Our recent efforts also include meetings with parliamentarians from the EZK (Economic Affairs) committee to build long-term relationships and position the NAB as a trusted policy partner.

In 2024, the NAB in coalition with its sister organisations from Europe -  FAIR(French NAB), Impact Finance Belgium (Belgian NAB), Social Impact Agenda per l’Italia (Italian NAB), the SpainNAB and Impact Europe (formerly EVPA)- launched their Impact Manifesto, calling on MEPs, political parties and EU decision-makers to put impact at the centre of EU policies.

Building a resilient European economy that fosters innovation and provides opportunities for all can only happen if EU policies allow more impact capital to be deployed and more impact actors to join the movement. The Manifesto outlines concrete policy pathways the EU can use to harness the power of impact investors to accelerate the transition to a more innovative, sustainable and inclusive economy.
